Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade Summary: |
|
Jin Roh is a story set in an alternate past where tokyo is under martial law and is faced with rebel group's. The Government uses the Capitol Police Organization (CAPO) as an instrument of repression, especially relying on it's heavily armed panza corp to annihilate the rebel's. The story is about one of the super soldier's, Kazuki Fuse dealing with his conscience after witnessing the death of a young political activist, and stuck in the middle of a political battle between two government agencies.
A simultaneously, complex political drama and a more personal look at the humanity of a single soldier, the plot offers a variety of twists and turns, which keep you guessing what is really going on politically. It also offers an additional level of symbolism by parallelling the very main story with a version of Red Riding Hood, with human frailty and our inner beast cast as the characters.
This is a subdued, gritty, unflinchingly(not moving) but sparingly violent look into the darker corners of the human spirit. This is a powerful film and successful at what it wants to be. i give it 8.5 out of 10.
