In this world is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? is it like the hand of god(deus ex machina) hovering above? atleast it is true... that man has no control over his own will.
BERSERK
Volume 1: War Cry
Berserk is the story of a swordsmen. One that weilds great
power, and a sword not to many could ever handle. He is able
to defeat even an immortal. His name is the Black Swordsmen.
This volume contains the first five episodes of the series.
War Cry is based on how he met Griffith, and became a fighter
in the Band of the Hawk, and how he learned to fight with a
sword, and what happened in his childhood.
This show has great fight scenes, and a lot of blood and gore.
There is a lot of cussing, and some nudity. The intro music doesn't
suit the show very much, but who really cares about the music? Also
it seemed funny to me that a couple of the characters has Goku's voice!!
The graphics are awesome, and anyone who is a fan of fights, and blood should watch this show.
CHARACTERS:
Guts -
The main character. Also known as the Black Swordsmen. He weilds a sword somewhat like a zanbato, with such power that it is amazing. He was born from a corpse. After two weeks with the Band of the Hawk he becomes a captain.
Master -
An immortal who takes the shape of a half human, half snake during the fight with Guts.
Bazuso -
Known as the 30-man Slayer, and the Bear Slaughterer.
He is a huge soldier twice as big as anyone.
Cozka -
A woman who is a commander in the Band of the Hawk
also know as Death on the Battle Feild.
Griffith -
Leader of the Band of the Hawk, which is a group of mercenaries who are hired by midland kingdom.
Corkus -
A bastard in the Band of the Hawk who has it in for Guts.
Ricket -
Another member of the Band of the Hawk. he is rescued by Guts in the First Battle. From then on Ricket takes a liking to Guts.
Gambino -
Was sort of a father to Guts. He was the one who trained Guts, and Gambino's wife was the one who found Guts as a baby.
Commander Adon -
A huge coward, He doesn't deserve his position.

This is an extremely well done anime with great fights and incredible character development(the change of Griffith and how subtle that change is). I loved it and the ending so many people hated is appretiated much better if you play the game(which continues the story). Also, for those of you who can't get the videogame, you can read the manga, which also continues the story. In conclusion, if you don't have a problem with violence in your anime, then this is a great series to get. BTW, to comment on people that don't like the ending, this was done because there was supposed to be another season and the story was supposed to continue. Unfortunately, the anime was deemed too violent/mature and another season was never made. I've read the manga (which is still continuing BTW) and there's a LOT more to this story than what was in the anime. If anything, the story gets better and develops along an even deeper path. If you likd the anime but weren't satisfied, you should check out the manga to see how Gutz gets out of the situation at the end and what sort of evil Griffith plans... | | Malice | 10-11-2003 10:55 [E-Mail,Site] | | Berserk had the potential to be one of the greatest animes of ALL TIME. We're talking an 11 out of ten like Hellsing. But then they had to go and ruin it with the last few episodes. Generally I like weird endings to animes, but this one destroyed the show for me. I know its supposed to lead into the game (good idea) but the game is for a system that went under and noone can get a copy of it (bad thing). If I played the game, it might get up to a 2 out of ten if it was the greatest ever, but since I can't, I give it a -50 out of ten. Blech. |
